This track was created by the continual processing of an ambisonic field recording of a busy seaside street. If there is any intention to the piece it is to show that even though what one might consider "natural" sounds are practically absent from the original recording, when the significant sounds of the data that we as humans consider important (voices, vehicles, car stereo music, and other machinery in the case of a busy street), are filtered out, and the underlying patterns and reverberations are revealed, what remains bears more than a passing resemblance to the ebb and flow one might expect to hear in an environment solely populated by birds, arthropods and fauna.

Originally recorded straight to cassette from a session in 1989, this was reapproached with Mark Tamea in 1991. Very little changed at the time, but it was remastered with some tweaks in 2006 for the proposed release of Music for Users that year.

Unfortunately we don't have an anechoic chamber round here to engineer this in, but it is more delicate than Lorenz Attractor, which can be a little harsh to some ears. Fletcher Munson (equal loudness) curves were used to try and keep all the sounds present without being overbearing.. Please sit in the optimum listening position for your loudspeaker setup. The equal loudness curves have been set for an optimum listening level of 80dB or thereabouts. This track uses just intonation so don't be surprised if it seems a little flat to your Pavlovian sense of what's "in tune". There are a couple of small anomalies in this mp3 version. A Still from the video made during a live performance of "Lorenz Attractor" from the Dar-As-Sulh Volume I CD, in Devon late 1999. The audience were shown a lecture by Dr. Sir Peter Guy Manners, given a short lecture on psychoacoustics, and then after the performance they were invited to a Moroccan feast made by the group (For this performance the group included Musaab Garghouti, Seth Lakeman, Christina Taylor & Madeleine Mosse). Reproduction was through an Audio & Design Ambi-8 Decoder. All the participants were given white protective suits to wear, so as to minimize any recognition of their surroundings further. The lights in the pool were automatically dimmed as the piece progressed. The ambisonic surround sound version of Lorenz Attractor for this performance was considerably longer than the version released on Dar-As-Sulh Volume I. Several people returned for a second spell, and many reported auditory and visual hallucinations during the playback.

The new home for all Kymatik sonic experiments. Out in the northern Spanish countryside on the edge of an 8-house hamlet near Chantada. Like a giant, underpopulated Devon. We have our own well, and a spring supplies us and the rest of the village. We'll be converting to off-grid power pretty quickly. Outbuildings should give us the space for a good sized ambisonic studio.

Collaboration between Kymatik and the formidable and multi-talented Mark Tamea www.virb.com/marktamea This is not a great compression. Kymatik stuff is not readily compressed these days - we are audiophile producers. All our stuff is uploaded on torrents as FLAC somewhere. Get with it virb, and offer FLAC for a small fee.
